CABINET PAINTING · HILLSBORO, OR
Kitchen cabinet painting in Hillsboro
If your cabinet boxes are solid but the color is dated, painting gives your kitchen a new look for much less than new cabinets usually cost.
GOOD FIT
Is painting right for your cabinets?
Painting is a good fit when:
- The cabinet boxes and doors are solid wood or MDF and in good shape
- You like the layout and just want a new look
- You want to update the kitchen without a full remodel
Painting is the wrong call when the boxes are water damaged, the doors are falling apart, or you want to change the layout. We'll tell you at the estimate if that's your situation.
OUR PROCESS
How we paint cabinets
-
Remove and label
Doors, drawer fronts and hardware come off and get labeled so everything goes back in its place.
-
Clean
Kitchen cabinets carry years of grease and hand oil, and paint won't stick to it. We degrease every surface.
-
Sand
A light sand gives the primer something to grip.
-
Prime
A bonding primer goes on first so the paint grips and resists chipping.
-
Paint
Smooth coats of a hard finish made for cabinets.
-
Reinstall
Doors and hardware go back on, adjusted and lined up.
AFTER THE JOB
Living with freshly painted cabinets
Painted cabinets feel dry quickly, but the paint keeps hardening for a few weeks. Go easy during that time: open doors by the knobs, don't hang wet towels on them, and wipe spills instead of scrubbing.
COST
What affects the cost of cabinet painting
- Number of doors and drawer fronts
- Cabinet material and current finish
- Condition: grease, peeling or damage
- Painting the inside of the boxes or not
- One color or two-tone (for example, a different color on the island)
FAQ
Cabinet painting FAQ
Can laminate or thermofoil cabinets be painted?
Some can with the right primer, and some aren't worth painting. We'll look at yours at the estimate and tell you honestly.
Can I use my kitchen while you work?
Mostly, yes. The doors come off for part of the job, and we'll tell you ahead of time which days the kitchen is off limits.
What colors work well on cabinets?
White and off white stay popular, and deep greens and blues work well on islands and lower cabinets. Try a sample next to your counters before you decide.
