EXTERIOR PAINTING · HILLSBORO, OR

Exterior house painting in Hillsboro, built for Oregon weather

Paint in the Pacific Northwest has to deal with months of rain, moss, and summer sun on the south and west walls. Prep decides how long it lasts, so that's where we spend our time.

What we paint outside

  • Lap, panel and fiber cement siding
  • Cedar siding and cedar shakes
  • Trim, fascia and soffits
  • Front doors and garage doors
  • Gutters and downspouts
  • Porches and railings

Our exterior prep

  1. We wash the house to remove dirt, mildew and moss, then let it dry fully. Paint doesn't stick well to a dirty or damp surface.

  2. Loose and peeling paint gets scraped off, and rough edges get sanded so the new coat lies flat.

  3. If we find soft or rotted wood, we point it out to you before anything gets painted over.

  4. Gaps around windows, doors and trim get caulked so water can't get behind the paint.

  5. Bare wood and repairs get primer. Cedar needs a stain blocking primer, because tannins in cedar can bleed through light paint and leave brown streaks.

  6. Windows, walkways, plants and cars get covered before we paint.

Why timing matters in Oregon

Exterior paint needs a dry surface and the right temperature to cure. Every can lists a minimum temperature on the label, and siding that's still wet from last night's rain can cause peeling even on a warm day. We plan exterior work around dry stretches and the forecast.

If you want your house painted in summer, it helps to call in spring.

What affects the cost of exterior painting

  • Size of the house and number of stories
  • Siding type and its condition
  • How much scraping, repair and caulking is needed
  • Number of colors (body, trim, accents)
  • Access: steep slopes, tall walls, landscaping close to the house

Exterior painting FAQ

When is the best time to paint a house in Oregon?

Late spring through early fall, when you get several dry days in a row.

How often does a house need repainting?

It depends on the siding, the paint and how much sun and rain each side gets. South and west walls usually wear first. If you see peeling, fading or bare wood, it's time to get it looked at.

Do I need to be home?

Usually not. We'll go over access, water and power with you at the estimate.

Can you match my HOA colors?

Yes. Send us the approved color list and we'll quote with those colors.
